Greetings and welcome! My name is Mr. Chou, or Zou Lao Shi. It is my pleasure to teach Chinese enrichment classes at Shelyn Elementary School this year. I look forward to learn Mandarin Chinese with you. Below is some important information about this enrichment class so please take some time to read them through.

Students are will engage and be able to conduct basic daily conversations in Chinese. Topics are included but not limited to:
  • Basic greetings
  • Self-Introduction (name, age, nationality etc.)

Curriculum:
The curriculum we will use for this class is My First Chinese Reader Vol. 1 from Better Chinese. This is a thematic-unit based Chinese curriculum that is particularly designed for non-native speakers to learn Chinese. Mr. Chou will also supplement with other curriculum such as Mei Zhou Hua Yu 美洲華語 (North American Chinese) and other authentic materials readings where appropriate to enrich the content of the class.

Classroom Rules & Expectations:
Classroom Rules:
  1. Raise your hand and wait to be called on
  2. Listen attentively when someone is talking
  3. Keep your hands and feet to yourself (including what you say)

For this Chinese enrichment class, I expect you to:
  • Be an active participant
  • Be tolerant
  • Use kind words
  • Have fun!

Class Website:
Mr. Chou’s website provides many useful resources and please feel free to use them to help you to learn the language.

I’m excited to start this learning journey with you. I believe we will have a wonderful and successful 2018-2019 school year together!

Sincerely,

Mr. Chou
